Establishing an operational programme: supporting producer organisations to contribute to strengthening farmers’ position in the agri-food supply chain and improving the economic, social and environmental sustainability of farms

About the pilot project l

This pilot project analyses the potential advantages of farmers being members of producer organisations (POs). It also examines how POs may strengthen producers' position in the agri-food supply chain and thereby improve the overall socioeconomic and environmental sustainability of farms. Moreover, the project examines how the POs can boost the overall economic sustainability of their members by establishing sectoral interventions through operational programmes (OPs). The main output of the project is a handbook that provides guidance on operational programs for stakeholders to enhance the sustainability of their members. The handbook focuses on the livestock and plant protein sectors, specifically dairy, beef, pig meat, grain, and protein crops.
