EU’s outermost regions can benefit from many new opportunities for support under EU policies to help them shape, implement and fund their tailored regional development strategies. The permanent constrains faced by outermost regions and their specificities is recognised in Article 349 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, which provides for specific measures to support the outermost regions, including specific provisions applicable to outermost regions in EU competitive programmes. In its renewed Strategy for the EU’s outermost regions, the European Commission committed to support their capacity to participate in EU competitive programmes. In this context, the European Commission is organising a series of 7 virtual workshops to provide tailored information on the opportunities and specific provisions for the outermost regions under various EU programmes[1].

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Programme will be presented to EU outermost regions in a first online workshop taking place on 13 December 2022.

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Programme supports the development of high performing, sustainable and efficiently interconnected trans-European networks in the fields of transport, energy and digital services. CEF Transport aims at supporting investments in building new transport infrastructure in Europe or rehabilitating and upgrading the existing one, in line with the Trans-European Networks for Transport (TEN-T) objectives. CEF Digital aims to contribute to the development of projects of common interest (PCIs) relating to the deployment of safe, secure and sustainable high-performance infrastructure, including Gigabit and 5G networks. The CEF programme provides various opportunities and includes specific provisions addressing the particular transport and digital needs of EU’s outermost regions.

This workshop will focus on:

  • presenting the Connecting Europe Facility Programme for the Transport and Digital sectors
  • providing recommendations on application procedures
  • sharing experiences from past beneficiaries
  • dedicating time for questions and answers

[1] The workshops will cover the following EU competitive programmes: Connecting Europe Facility (CEF); Digital Europe Programme; Programme for the Environment and Climate Action (LIFE); Erasmus+; Horizon Europe; Creative Europe Programme; Single Market Programme
